The Seattle Mariners acquired right-hander Casey Legumina from the Cincinnati Reds on Monday in exchange for cash considerations, executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Justin Hollander announced. In a corresponding move, the team designated left-hander Jhonathan Diaz for assignment to make room for Legumina on the 40-man roster. Legumina, 27, was recently designated for assignment by the Reds and will join Seattle in 2025 after posting an ugly 8.68 ERA and 1.82 WHIP with seven strikeouts and two walks in 9 1/3 relief innings. He has a 6.95 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in 22 relief innings for the Reds over the last two seasons and will merely serve as relief depth for the Mariners heading into this season. Expect Legumina to open the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Tacoma.--Keith Hernandez
