Luis Robert 2021 Outlook: A Likely 20 Home Run, 20 Stolen Base Hitter With Upside For More
4 years agoOne of the only ways to maintain fantasy relevance while posting a swinging-strike rate near or above 20% is to swing often and make any contact count. Robert did all of that in 2020, swinging more frequently than anyone other than Hanser Alberto while posting a .432 xwOBAcon and stealing nine bases in 56 games. Robert also struck out at a 32% clip that was more than well-supported by a 22% swinging-strike rate and bottom-ten o- and z-contact rates, sticking him with an ugly .233 batting average. The 2021 projection on Robert is fairly straightforward given his solid power, impressive speed, and tendency to swing and miss: he's a legitimate 20 home run, 20 stolen base threat with the upside to hit more than 30 home runs, but it's probably going to come with a strikeout rate north of 30% and a batting average below .260. That makes Robert a relatively high-risk, high-reward pick at his 35 ADP, but it's a reasonable cost given his upside.
