Luis Campusano Eyes Opening Day Roster Spot
4 years agoSan Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano went 1-for-1 with a walk on Sunday. The 22-year-old rookie's chances of earning a spot on the club's opening day roster increased with the news that first-string catcher Austin Nola has a fractured finger. He may have to open the year on the injured list. That would move backup catcher Victor Caratini into the starter's role and open a slot for Campusano. The rookie could push for semi-regular playing time due to his offensive upside. He's 5-for-16 (.313) with two doubles and a BB-K of 2-3 this spring. He's ranked by Rotoballer as the seventh-best dynasty prospect at the catcher position.
