The Houston Texans are hiring Lovie Smith as their new defensive coordinator on Friday. Smith spent the last five years at the University of Illinois, but he was fired after finishing with a record of 17-39. He was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he was last in the NFL, going 8-24 in two seasons. Smith was the defensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams in 2001 when he turned their defense around and made a name for himself. He then led the Chicago Bears to three playoff appearances, including an NFC title and Super Bowl appearance. Houston's defense finished 32nd in rushing yards allowed per game, 30th in yards allowed per game and 27th in points allowed per game in 2020, so Smith has a big task ahead of him.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
