Kyle Gibson A High-Risk Individual For COVID-19
4 years agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Kyle Gibson has ulcerative colitis, an autoimmune disorder, which makes him a high-risk individual amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It means that the right-hander isn't required to take part in the shortened 60-game season, but he would still receive his pay. It's unclear whether Gibson has decided to sit out the season, but we should know soon with players expected to report to their home cities by Wednesday, July 1. The 32-year-old was 13-7 with a 4.84 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 9.0 K/9 in 160 innings (29 starts, five relief outings) for the Twins last year. He has a career 4.52 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 7.0 K/9 in 1,087 innings over seven seasons. It's unknown yet if Gibson will actually sit out in 2020, but his medical condition makes him an even bigger risk in his first year with Texas.
