Justin Verlander Showing Revamped Delivery
4 years agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (groin) is completely healed from March groin surgery and was also able to make some adjustments to his mechanics during the COVID-19 shutdown that have him feeling "fantastic." He threw three scoreless and hitless innings in an intrasquad game Thursday. The right-hander was 21-6 with a 2.58 ERA last year with a career-high 300 strikeouts in 223 innings while leading the majors in opponents' batting average (.172) and WHIP (0.80). He also threw his third no-hitter and won the American League Cy Young for the second time. Verlander is a beast and doesn't look to be slowing down at 37 years of age. He is now likely to start on Opening Day on July 24 against the Mariners and should once again be a fantasy ace, even though it wasn't looking that way several months ago.
