Julian Edelman 2019 Outlook: Still a Top Tier WR?
6 years agoComing back from injury, Julian Edelman had a down year by his standards (74 catches for 850 yards and 6 TDs). However, part of the reason for that is due to missing the first four games through suspension. However, he finished the season strong in the playoffs, including an impressive Super Bowl MVP performance. The Patriots turned back the clock and became more reliant on the run a year ago, taking some of the load off of Tom Brady's shoulders. The question as we head into the 2019 season will be whether or not that style of offense is here to stay for the Patriots? With his current ADP sitting at WR19, it's hard for me to place a "buy" tag on Edelman. He faces the 22nd ranked schedule for receivers and now has a prized rookie N'Keal Harry in the fold. He still holds strong value in PPR formats, but seeing him as a definite WR2 may be a bit of a stretch this year. If you can grab him in the sixth round as a WR3, consider that a win for yourself. He is currently dealing with a nagging thumb injury which has meant we will not see him at all this preseason. For someone whose hands are his greatest his weapon, an injury to the thumb is worth noting. While he is still expected to play the majority of the season his value should be unaffected. However, it is worth exercising a little caution right now in case he suffers a setback.
