Jose Reyes Set For Utility Role In 2018
7 years agoInfielder Jose Reyes will be back in Queens for 2018, much to the surprise of most New York Mets fans. The team has an excess of players around the diamond, and as of now, Reyes seems primed to see playing time all over the place. With Todd Frazier at third base and Amed Rosario in place at shortstop, though, chances are Reyes will see the majority of his time splitting second base with Asdrubal Cabrera (assuming the Mets don’t acquire an everyday player at the position). Reyes had an underwhelming 2017, slashing .249/.309/.388 with 15 home runs, 75 runs scored, 58 RBI and 24 stolen bases across 561 plate appearances, but it’s worth noting that slash line jumped to .300/.375/.530 in September. Chances are that was just a mirage unfortunately, and without consistent playing time Reyes won’t be worth a roster spot.
