Jonah Heim 2023 Player Outlook: Looking For Another Solid Season
2 years agoTexas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim enjoyed his best season as a Major-League player last season, hitting .227 with a .298 on-base percentage, 16 home runs, and a pair of stolen bases in 450 plate appearances. While he provides more value to the Rangers with his glovework behind the plate, Heim also provided value for fantasy managers last season with his ability to contribute home runs and the occasional steal at the catcher position. His .227 batting average was a career-high, but it also might've been a bit on the unlucky side, what with just a 19.3% strikeout rate and a .249 BABIP. If Heim's BABIP isn't as unlucky next year, he could be in for a considerably better fantasy season. Plus, with his ability to impact the game behind the plate, Heim should continue to get regular plate appearances for the Rangers. As of right now, the 26-year-old's only competition for starts behind the plate is Sam Huff and Mitch Garver, though Huff has only appeared in 44 games at the Major League level and Garver saw most of his starts at designated hitter last season.
