Jon Gray Falls Into A Win
7 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray gave up four earned run in six innings to the lowly Cincinnati Reds on Friday, but he lucked into a win thanks to some timely offensive output by Noel Cuevas and the gang. Gray is striking out more hitters and walking fewer hitters than ever before, but he’s getting hit hard on the regular. His 5.40 ERA is over two full runs higher than his FIP, and his atrocious 1.41 WHIP is being buoyed by a .368 BABIP. Those are strong indicators that now’s the time to buy low on Gray, but it’s a hard sell when he regularly pitches in Colorado and has struggled so much so far. The good news is that the asking price is probably low enough at this point that he’s still worth a flier.
