Jeremy Chinn 2022 NFL Player Outlook: A High Floor DB With Pass Rush Potential
2 years agoOur pre-season darling of 2020, Carolina Panthers defensive back Jeremy Chinn, has been the picture of consistency across his first two years in the league. In 2020 and 2021, Chinn registered identical interception, a pass deflection, and sack totals despite moving from a part-time linebacker role to a full-time safety position in his sophomore season. Chinn also posted nearly identical tackle and solo tackle numbers across those seasons, finishing ninth amongst DBs in tackles during 2021 despite playing more deep coverage. Advanced metrics loved Chinn last year, too, as he ranked fourth amongst DBs in stops, seventh in quarterback pressures, and he registered a solid 9.6% missed tackle rate. A shallow glance at Chinn's box score suggests he's a tackle-dependent DB without a ton of upside, which should push him down casual draft boards and improve his draft value. However, there is still meat left on the bone with Chinn, whose pressure rate suggests his sack production and tackles for loss are bound to go up. Draft Chinn for his floor, but there's still upside here.
