Jean Segura 2022 Player Outlook: Low-End Production Across The Board
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies second baseman Jean Segura has become a low-end jack-of-all-trades, master of none for fantasy purposes over the past few years. He was great at avoiding strikeouts last year, with a 13.8% strikeout rate that ranked in the 91st percentile, but that was the only statistic in which he truly flourished. Over 131 games last season, he slashed .290/.348/.436 with 14 home runs, nine stolen bases, 76 runs and 58 RBI. His .266 xBA (70th percentile) suggests he was a bit lucky in the batting average department. But he's only hit under .280 once over the past six seasons (.266 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season), so it's reasonable to expect that he will give fantasy managers a boost in batting average once again in 2022. Segura is a "boring pick" in terms of his lack of upside, but he has some potential value in deep rotisserie and head-to-head categories leagues. He will help managers in those formats in small doses across the board without hurting in any one stat. He has an ADP around 220 right now, which is a bit too high, but he's admittedly one of the safer players at that point in drafts if that's what your priority is.
