New York Mets outfielder Jay Bruce is getting the night off on Friday; presumably it’s a normal day of rest due to the San Diego Padres trotting out southpaw starting pitcher Clayton Richard on the mound. Michael Conforto is still in the lineup, however, and will be taking Bruce’s place in right field while Juan Lagares will make the start in centerfield. After a very slow start to the year, Bruce has picked it up a bit as of late. He’s currently on a five game hitting streak, with multiple hits in two of them. He’s also amassed a home run, double, and triple over that span. He may be dealing with plantar fasciitis in his foot, but it was still only a matter of time until he got going.--John Smith
