J.P. France Looking To Avoid Regression Thursday
Houston Astros pitcher J.P. France is looking to avoid regression on Thursday when he takes the mound on the road against the Oakland Athletics. The 28-year-old rookie has pitched to a quality 3.31 ERA across 12 starts on the season but his peripheral numbers spell regression moving forward. The right-hander also sports a 4.65 FIP and a 4.80 SIERA in his 70 2/3 innings of work while boasting a subpar 16.9% K%. France struck out Triple-A hitters at a hefty 33.8% clip prior to his big-league promotion in 19 1/3 innings this season but has yet to see his strikeout stuff translate into the big leagues. Despite regression looming, he has a nice matchup on tap against an A's offense that is tied for 28th with a .288 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.
