New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin (back) is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season. The star goalie is recovering from back surgery and didn't see action in any of the team's six preseason games. However, it remains to be seen if he will be named a starter for the team's first game of the campaign on Thursday versus the Utah Hockey Club. Sorokin had a down year in 2023-24, and the back injury is an early setback for him regarding the new campaign. It might take a while before he's back in top form, and this could give Semyon Varlamov extra action early in the season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
