Hunter Renfroe 2022 Player Outlook: Slugger Finds Another New Home
3 years agoHunter Renfroe enjoyed his most successful pro season in 2021 with Boston. The beefy slugger hit 31 HR and drove in 96 runs while posting a Barrel% in the 84th percentile in one year with the Sox. Yet, he's not sticking around as he was traded to Milwaukee in exchange for Jackie Bradley Jr. and a pair of infield prospects. That makes four teams in the last four seasons for this former top Padres prospect.
Renfroe's power is always in play and he has a gun for an arm that makes him an asset defensively. His won't hit much for average, as his .237 lifetime batting average attests. His .259 AVG and .315 OBP last season were both career highs. One thing he can do is launch the ball over the fence. Miller Park will play a little more favorably for a right-handed power hitter than Fenway did, so 30-35 HR is definitely in play. Renfroe should hit in the middle of the order so if Christian Yelich can recapture his pre-2020 form, there should be sufficient RBI opportunities. For managers in roto leagues, Renfroe can be a big help in the power categories but leave you wanting in the others. That makes him more of an OF4 for fantasy purposes that you can grab around pick 170 overall.
