Cleveland Indians infielder Giovanny Urshela was designated for assignment on Friday. The 26-year-old utility infielder made appearances at first, second, third, and shortstop last season. He was expected to make the team out of Spring Training, but a hamstring injury kept him off the Opening Day roster. He was hitting well in Triple-A, slashing .324/.405/.432, but with Cleveland needing roster space, Urshela was the odd man out.
