George Springer Again Will Be Baseball's Most Dangerous Leadoff Man
7 years agoHouston Astros centerfielder George Springer burst onto the scene in 2017, smacking a career-high 34 home runs and absolutely torturing teams in the playoffs en route to a World Series victory. He set career highs in batting average (.282), on base percentage (.367), slugging (.522), OPS (.889), doubles (29) and runs batted in (85). From the opening week of the season, Springer was deadly leading off games, hitting eight lead-off home runs during the regular season to get the Astros on the board early. He continued to be a threat all throughout the playoffs, hitting six home runs and slugging at a .611 clip in 18 postseason games. Springer has become a stablizing force in a young Astros lineup that should score a ton of runs in 2018. There could be a slight regression in batting average this season but 55-60 extra base hits, 100 runs scored and 70-90 runs batted in is a decent starting place for Springer's 2018 fantasy potential.
