Garrett Richards Could Start Rehab Assignment Next Week
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Garrett Richards (elbow, shoulder) will throw live batting practice on Saturday and hopes to resume his rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore next Thursday. Richards left his last rehab start on Aug. 5 with shoulder discomfort after 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Coming back from Tommy John surgery, Richards is still expected to pitch before the season is over. The 31-year-old right-hander should be a big part of the Friars rotation in 2020, but he won't help fantasy owners at all in the final month.
