Gabriel Arias Nearing Big-League Return
Gabriel Arias (ankle) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on July 18 and should be back "pretty soon," according to Guardians manager Stephen Vogt. Arias was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain on June 30. In 281 plate appearances before getting hurt, Arias slashed .231/.293/.369 with six home runs, 31 RBI, 28 runs scored, and three stolen bases. The 25-year-old hits the ball hard (10.6% barrel rate), but has a major swing-and-miss problem (31.3% strikeout rate). Arias will be battling Brayan Rocchio for playing time at shortstop upon his return. Rocchio is a standout defender, but has hit just .207 with one home run in 158 plate appearances this season.
