Eugenio Suarez on Reds Radar
Eugenio Suarez, among the most coveted players available around the July 31 deadline, has drawn interest from the Cincinnati Reds, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic. Suarez, 34, played for the Reds from 2015-21 and posted three seasons of 30-plus home runs with the club. He slugged a career-best 49 bombs with the Reds in 2019. The two-time All-Star has already swatted 36 dingers this year and hit .254/.325.598 with a major league-high 86 RBI and 64 runs scored in 412 plate appearances, leading to vast interest around the league. The Reds do have a promising young third baseman in Noelvi Marte, but the team has experimented with him in the outfield in recent days. Marte is now a candidate to change positions in the event of a Suarez acquisition. After a sweep at the hands of the Houston Astros, the Diamondbacks are 50-53, 5 1/2 games out of a wild-card spot, and all but guaranteed to sell at the deadline. That could include shipping Suarez, a soon-to-be free agent, to Cincinnati or another city.
