Hosmer is off to a slow start slashing .259/.364/.412 with two homeruns and only four RBI, but can be safely deployed in lineups where necessary. In a corresponding move, infielder Corey Spangenberg was optioned to Triple-A El Paso with just a .594 OPS after 60 plate appearances. His departure could open additional playing time for outfielder Jose Pirela at second base.
