San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer was reinstated from family medical leave Friday before the weekend series against the New York Mets. He will hit second in his return. Hosmer is off to a slow start slashing .259/.364/.412 with two homeruns and only four RBI, but can be safely deployed in lineups where necessary. In a corresponding move, infielder Corey Spangenberg was optioned to Triple-A El Paso with just a .594 OPS after 60 plate appearances. His departure could open additional playing time for outfielder Jose Pirela at second base. Second baseman Carlos Asuaje should continue seeing the bulk of starts at the keystone.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
