Drake Baldwin 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Exciting Prospect With Starting Catcher Upside Until Murphy Returns
Drake Baldwin is one of the best catching prospects in baseball, and he's likely to be the Braves primary backstop for the first month of the season with Sean Murphy (rib) out 4-6 weeks with a fractured rib. Baldwin has low-end starting catcher upside and should see a lot of playing time in April. He's been an above-average hitter at every stop along his minor league journey, and his strong K:BB ratios (52 walks and 54 strikeouts in Triple-A last season) should help him translate well to the majors. For however long he's in the lineup, he'll provide a solid average, a few home runs, and plenty of runs and RBIs in a loaded Braves lineup that includes Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, and Ronald Acuna Jr. (knee) when he returns. Unfortunately, Baldwin will likely not play enough to be fantasy-relevant once Murphy comes back since Marcell Ozuna is locked in as the Braves' everyday designated hitter. Baldwin is mainly worth drafting in two-catcher formats (RotoBaller C24) until Murphy returns, as ATC projects him to slash .235/.314/.358 over 209 plate appearances in 2025.
