Donovan Smith Signs One-Year Deal With Chiefs
2 years agoVeteran free-agent offensive tackle Donovan Smith signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday on a one-year deal worth up to $9 million, according to a source. Smith is now expected to play left tackle and protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind side in 2023, with Jawaan Taylor likely to move over to the right side of the offensive line. The 29-year-old Smith was originally a second-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015, and he spent the first eight years of his NFL career playing for the Bucs before signing with the Chiefs. He has started a total of 124 games in his career, although he only played in 13 games in 2022 due to elbow and foot injuries. Smith was pivotal for Tampa's offense when they won the Super Bowl over the Chiefs in the 2020 season.
