Donovan Mitchell Has A Historic 71-Point Night
2 years agoCleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell looked like a man from another planet Monday versus Chicago, scoring 71 points in a 145-134 overtime victory. He became the sixth player in NBA history to score at least 71 points in a game and his performance also marks the first-ever game in the league with 70-plus points and 10-plus assists. It's the highest-scoring performance from a player since Kobe Bryant had 81 points versus Toronto in 2006. Mitchell got there with 22-for-34 shooting from the field and a 20-for-25 effort at the foul line. The Cleveland star netted seven triples with 15 attempts, and he wasn't far away from a triple-double either, finishing with eight rebounds, 11 assists and one block. Mitchell has been slumping lately, but he's one of the most talented scorers in the league and was always going to break out of it quickly. He was in an ideal situation for a big scoring night, with Darius Garland (thumb) and Evan Mobley (ankle) out of the lineup.
