Denny Hamlin had the dominant car at Darlington in Sunday night's Cook Out Southern 500, but he didn't get the finish to show for it. The No. 11 Toyota led for 177 of the 366 laps at "The Lady in Black" in the opening race of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, but a loose wheel and then some damage from a late wreck relegated Hamlin to a disappointing 25th-place finish. As far as the Playoffs go, Hamlin now has a 27-point cushion over the cut line to make it into the Round of 12 with two races remaining before the next cut. When asked after the race about it, Denny said, "I don't know where the points are. Really don't care. I just hate losing the race that we definitely should have won." The good news for Hamlin is that the next stop on the schedule is Kansas Speedway, where he went to victory lane at earlier this season.--Jordan McAbee
