DeAndre Hopkins, 2023 Outlook: Should Operate As Tennessee’s Primary Receiver
2 years agoDeAndre Hopkins secured a two-year contract with Tennessee, which brought long-awaited clarity to an unsettled situation that had lingered throughout the offseason. It also provides Hopkins with an opportunity to operate as the Titans’ primary receiving weapon, while seizing those responsibilities from Treylon Burks. Even though the five-time Pro-Bowler is now 31, his numbers during 2022 should instill confidence that he can deliver low-end WR2 numbers while operating in Tennessee. Hopkins resurfaced following his six-game suspension last season (performance-enhancing substances) to commandeer a league-high 48.3% target share in Week 7. He also collected 10+ targets in seven of his nine matchups from Weeks 7-16, while finishing fourth in receptions (64/7.1 per game), sixth in both targets per route run (36.4%), and air yards (976), and ninth in receiving yards (717/79.7 per game) during that sequence. Hopkins’ infusion into the Titans’ receiving arsenal will supply a boost to Ryan Tannehill’s stock. However, it is also an unfavorable development for Burks and Chigoziem Okonkwo, as it will also fuel a reduction in targets for both players - within an offense that ranked just 30th in pass attempts per game last season (26.8). However, the end to all uncertainty surrounding Hopkins’s status should bolster his viability as an option for fantasy managers, even though it should also launch a rise in his current ADPs in best ball leagues (55/WR22) and dynasty startups (95/WR45).
