Cole Kmet 2025 Outlook: No Longer an Offensive Priority in Chicago
Cole Kmet's hype has gone in the opposite direction. The Bears spent their first-round pick (10th overall) on University of Michigan tight end Colston Loveland. He's being labeled as head coach Ben Johnson's Sam LaPorta, referencing the pair's success in Detroit. Kmet, halfway through a four-year, $50 million contract, will remain a part of the offense. But with Loveland's designation as the tight end of the future, he'll eat into Kmet's snaps. Kmet already suffered through a 2024 season in which he averaged the fewest yards and catches per game since his rookie season. DJ Moore and Rome Odunze will top the wide receiver depth chart. The Bears also drafted wide receiver Luther Burden III in the second round. Ultimately, Kmet's chances at a bounceback season plummeted when the Bears turned in their first-round draft card, pushing the 26-year-old to what is likely the fourth or fifth option in the passing game.
The Chicago Bears won the offseason yet again, and there's more hype around the Windy City offense.
