Colby Thomas 2025 Outlook: Flying Under The Radar
3 weeks agoAthletics 2024 Minor League Player of the Year Colby Thomas has been one of baseball's most consistent prospects since being drafted out of Mercer University in 2022. Through 258 professional games, he has slashed .281/.347/.528 with 83 doubles, 49 home runs, 40 stolen bases, and 77:288 BB/SO. Last season, he posted a .903 OPS in 59 games with Double-A Midland, followed by a .908 OPS in 73 games with Triple-A Las Vegas. Seemingly on the cusp of a big-league debut in 2025, it appears only Seth Brown stands between him and the A's starting left-field job. Considering Brown's 91 OPS+ over the last two seasons and his consistently subpar defense, Thomas certainly has a chance to earn it. When that happens, he could emerge as a standout in the Athletics' young core, possibly even sneaking into the conversation for the American League's top rookie (especially with the A's set to play at a rather hitter-friendly Sacramento ballpark).
