Cubs Are Looking for Starting Pitching
Jameson Taillon (calf) on the shelf, Justin Steele (elbow) out for the season, and Javier Assad (oblique) still on the 60-day injured list, the team has made it work this season with rookie Cade Horton, journeyman Colin Rea, Shota Imanaga, and a resurgent Matthew Boyd. With Horton unproven and Boyd logging lots of innings, Rosenthal says a starting pitcher is obviously the club's need, but also points out that the starting pitching market is shallow. He mentioned both Zac Gallen and Sandy Alcantara as potential fits despite their inconsistencies and also threw out Mitch Keller as a potential fit, although "maybe not a difference maker." With a one-game lead in the NL Central, the Cubs will look to be aggressive as they look to make a postseason run this season.
