Casey Mize Drafted First Overall By Tigers
7 years agoWith the first overall selection in the 2018 MLB Amateur draft, the Detroit Tigers selected 21-year-old pitcher Casey Mize out of Auburn University as a junior. Clocking in at 6-foot-3 and 208 pounds, Mize went into this draft almost as the unanimous first overall choice and already looks to be nearly MLB-ready. Mize pitched to a 9-5 record, 3.07 ERA and 140 strikeouts in 102 2/3 innings for the Tigers in 2018. The Tigers rank 11th in the MiLB Pitchers Farm System Rankings, and Mize will compete alongside pitchers such as Franklin Perez, Matt Manning, Alex Faedo, Beau Burrows and Kyle Funkhouser, who all rank within the top six of the Tigers top 30 prospects in the system. Mize's scouting grades consist of a 60 fastball, a 60 slider, a 70 splitter and 60 control on the 20-80 scale and with the Tigers rebuilding, he could make an impact in the majors sooner than later.
