Brendan Rodgers 2019 Outlook: Top Talent, But Not Until 2020
6 years agoA top fantasy prospect, with little chance of playing time this season, owners should avoid drafting Brendan Rodgers this year and instead target him in 2020 and beyond. Not only do the Rockies seems to be set after some offseason moves, but Rodger’s 2018 campaign left some questions unanswered. Last season, Rodgers struggled after a promotion to Triple-A, where he posted a .232/.264/.290 slash. These numbers were down noticeably from his Double-A line of .275/.342/.493. Rodgers also showed no power late in the year, after hitting 17 bombs the level below. The other red flag on readiness is the K rate, as Rodgers posted a 20%+ line over his career in the minors. While not ideal, this percentage will play if the power can keep coming, but with that disappearing, the plate skills are not there for an impact yet. Also, the speed does not seem to be there, as he only stole double digits once in the minors, so owners are looking for production at the plate. Since the Daniel Murphy signing, Rodgers has seen his ADP drop to 420, reflecting the block at the position. Rotoballer has him ranked a bit higher at 336 indicating the upside, as the park and team contexts are a boon to his fantasy value. Still, without an injury, Rodgers is, at best, a September call-up at this point.
