Brandon Sproat Strikes Out Nine on Saturday
Brandon Sproat threw five innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, allowing zero earned runs (one unearned run) on one hit and one walk while striking out nine batters. It's now a dominant four-game stretch for the righty, posting a 0.00 ERA, 0.61 WHIP, and an elite 25.9 percent K-BB% in his last 23 innings pitched. The 24-year-old allowed six earned runs on three separate occasions earlier this season, and as a result, his season-long ERA still stands at a high 4.34, but he's clearly rolling now. The Mets' fifth-ranked prospect appears to be on the doorstep to an MLB debut, so managers in deep leagues who are looking for pitching help should consider stashing the 6-foot-3 hurler in advance of an eventual call-up.
