Brandon Sproat Should Reach The Majors In The Second Half
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, New York Mets starting pitching prospect Brandon Sproat will likely make his big league debut sometime in the second half. Sammon noted the top prospect in the New York system will open the season at the Triple-A level. Last summer, Sproat made his professional debut and performed very well. He began the season with High-A Brooklyn and held a 1.07 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP across 25 1/3 innings of work. He then moved up to Double-A, where he struck out 77 batters in just 62 1/3 innings. Across that stint, the right-hander posted a 2.45 ERA with a strong 0.87 WHIP. However, once he reached Triple-A, the Florida product took a step back, holding a hefty 7.53 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP across 28 2/3 innings. Fantasy managers should monitor his progress during spring training. The 24-year-old should only be viewed as a stash candidate in deeper redraft formats, as he may not contend for a big league debut until the second half of the campaign.
