Brailyn Marquez Included In Team's Player Pool
4 years agoChicago Cubs pitching prospect Brailyn Marquez, the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was included in the team's initial player pool for the upcoming 2020 season. Outfielder Brennen Davis (No. 3) and catching prospect Miguel Amaya (No. 4) are also on the list of camp invites. Marquez's 6-foot-4, 185-pound frame can make it hard for him to repeat his delivery, but the southpaw made strides with his command last year in the minors, cutting his walk rate to 5.8 per nine innings to 1.9. The 21-year-old has the potential to be a front-liner starter in the majors. He went 9-5 with a 3.13 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 11.1 K/9 in 22 starts for Single-A South Bend and High-A Myrtle Beach last year. Marquez has lots of upside, but don't expect him to pitch for the Cubs in 2020.
