Antonio Gibson Wants To Catch More Passes
Antonio Gibson said he'd like to be used more as a pass-catcher out of the backfield in new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's scheme in 2023. "Just lining up out wide, like you said," Gibson said. "I haven't shown my position. I feel the same way. Every year we talk about it, but it hasn't happened." The former third-rounder had a 1,000-yard rushing season in 2021 but was in head coach Ron Rivera's doghouse for much of last year and ended up with just 546 yards and three TDs on 149 carries. Brian Robinson should continue to be the leader on early downs, but Gibson's role as a pass-catcher should increase significantly with J.D. McKissic now gone, making him a nice sleeper target in PPR fantasy leagues.
