Antonio Gibson 2020 Outlook: Explosive Playmaker Hopes To See The Field Enough
5 years agoThe Washington Redskins used the 66th pick in the draft on one of the most electrifying players available, running back Antonio Gibson. He's classified as a running back, but the former Memphis star played wide receiver in college and will contribute both as a rusher and receiver in the NFL. In fact, his new head coach Ron Rivera has already compared Gibson to another player he coached in Carolina, Christian McCaffrey. While it's unfair to expect Gibson to perform like the All-Pro, Rivera's experience with McCaffrey should help him maximize Gibson's unique talents. Last season in college, Gibson scored eight receiving touchdowns and four rushing touchdowns while averaging a healthy 19.3 yards per catch. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, Gibson's touches will be difficult to project. Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson are ahead of him on the depth chart and J.D. McKissic will take some passing downs work. The Redskins coaching staff will look to get the ball in Gibson's hands when they can, but given their roster depth it's hard to envision Gibson getting more than 8-10 touches per game, and that may be optimistic. Still, expect Rivera to find creative ways to get Gibson involved. His 4.39-second 40-yard dash time makes him a home-run threat every time he touches the ball making him a great late-round flier in fantasy drafts.
