Anthony Rendon Breaks Out In 2017
7 years agoAnthony Rendon started slow in 2017. But when he took off, he became one of the best fantasy assets, not just at third base, but at any position anywhere. He famously had six hits, three HR and 10 RBI in a game on April 30th and took off from there. He ended the season with 25 HR, 81 R, and 100 RBI while stealing seven bases. He hit .301/.403/.533 and would have gotten even better counting stats if Dusty Baker hadn’t decided to bat Rendon sixth for most of the season. He doesn’t mash like the top third basemen in fantasy. But his 84 walks versus 82 strikeouts were good for a 4th-best 1.02 BB/K mark, just putting him behind Joey Votto, Justin Turner and Mike Trout. He has an unbelievably good eye in the middle of a great lineup, making him an extremely valuable investment, especially if he falls to the third round or beyond in drafts. And the best part? He’s only 27. Health has always been a concern with Rendon, but 2017 showed what his ceiling could look like. This season could be the last one where he's not considered a first-round talent, so draft accordingly.
