Andy Dalton 2019 Player Outlook: Low-Ceiling QB Hindered By Offense
5 years agoCincinnati Bengals starting quarterback Andy Dalton saw his 2018 season cut short, missing the last five games of the year due to torn ligaments in his thumb. However, he didn't exactly set the world on fire when he did play, tallying 2,566 passing yards, a 21/11 TD/INT ratio, 7.0 yards/attempt, and 233.3 passing yards/game over his 11 games started (finishing as QB24 for the year). Dalton checked in at QB16 before hitting injured reserve, so it's important to note that he was a clear QB2 when he was still healthy. Though offensive-minded first-year head coach Zac Taylor and sophomore-year wideout Tyler Boyd could provide a jolt to this offense, Dalton will be without star wide receiver AJ Green for at least a few games and the Bengals are sure to feature the running game in his absence. Of course, the Bengals running out the 27th ranked offensive line (according to PFF) does not bode well for Dalton's prospects, either. Dalton does have job security, but he'll be entering his ninth season in the NFL and we all know who he is by now - a low-ceiling, unappealing quarterback. Dalton is being drafted at 179 overall (QB26) and only holds value as a QB2/QB3 sleeper in fantasy leagues that start two quarterbacks.
