Alex Highsmith 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Upside Going Into Year Four
1 year agoPittsburgh Steelers edge rusher Alex Highsmith has established himself as a quality starting IDP defensive lineman with a high upside going into his fourth season. Highsmith has made significant progress each season, gaining more and more playing time and making big plays. Last season, he placed sixth in the league with 14.5 sacks. His sack rate has increased from 0.9% his rookie year to 2.8% last season, which ranks amongst the best pass rushers. On top of that, he forced five fumbles and hit the quarterback 20 times. Having T.J. Watt rush the passer on the opposite side for an entire season could help Highsmith's production. In the 10 games Watt played last season, Highsmith averaged 1.1 sacks, 0.4 forced fumbles, and 4.1 tackles per game. He averaged 0.5 sacks, 0.1 forced fumbles, and 3.1 tackles in the games without Watt.
