A.J. Green 2019 Player Outlook: A Top Wide Receiver Despite Ankle Injury
5 years agoA.J. Green underwent a minor procedure to clean out his ankle and will miss 4-5 weeks. That puts him right in line with a return for Week 1 at Seattle. He can be considered questionable for that match-up, but there’s no way this should drag on past week two or three. There seems to be a ton of doubt surrounding Green, and some have even moved him into the fourth tier of WR, but I don’t see it at all. There is certainly injury risk, but he’s dominated in between injuries, so there’s no indication that he’s going to be hindered. Green has been a top 10 fantasy receiver in each of the last six seasons he’s played fully. Prior to getting hurt in ‘18, Green ranked as WR6 and didn’t have the easiest match-ups to that point. Sure, Andy Dalton isn’t great, but he never has been. The Bengals have a more potent offense than Green has ever been a part of, with Joe Mixon and Tyler Boyd blossoming into legitimate weapons opposite Green. Eifert is also back healthy and a real threat that opposing safeties have to pay attention to. Defenses will be forced to give others attention and Green will see fewer double teams than in years past. It’s fair to move Green into the third tier of receivers with his injury risk, but this is a guy that’s a WR1 when healthy in any league. It really just comes down to whether or not you think Green can remain on the field.
