BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 8% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Pat Freiermuth didn't get much of a chance to showcase his skills in his final season with Penn State, but Pittsburgh still took him 55th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft off the strength of his 875 yards, 69 receptions, and 15 touchdowns combined across his 25 games played for the Nittany Lions from 2018-2019. Even with the Steelers entering a rebuilding phase and Ben Roethlisberger looking like a shell of his former self, the 6'5, 260-lb. rookie still came into this season with a team featuring veteran Eric Ebron at TE, much-anticipated rookie running back Najee Harris, and receivers like Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson, and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Even with the competition for catches, Freiermuth got going early and is displaying gradual improvement as his role in the passing game increases. The Steelers might have looked miserable against the Bengals this week, but Freiermuth managed to make his presence felt with three receptions on five targets for 22 yards and his first NFL touchdown. Overall, his ten targets, eight catches, and 82 receiving yards each rank fifth on Pittsburgh's roster while Ebron has nearly been eliminated from offensive participation entirely, and he is one of only three Steelers with a receiving touchdown. Whatever happens for Pittsburgh at QB, Pat Freiermuth has quickly proven himself as a short-yardage threat with the size and hands to threaten in the end zone. Even if Johnson makes a quick return to the field, Freiermuth can definitely maintain his value as the Steelers' fifth option through the air.
