Padres Fire Bud Black After Nine Seasons

The San Diego Padres have fired Bud Black on Monday after nine seasons as the skipper for the club, according to MLB.com.

After a great start to the 2015 season, the Padres have dipped below .500 with a 32-33 record. They are now six games out of first in the NL West. The man who paid the price for the recent transgressions is the man who managed the club for nearly a decade.

Black had a 649-713 record, good for a winning percentage of .477 during his tenure. With all the acquisitions and trades during the offseason for guys like the Upton brothers, Craig Kimbrel, Matt Kemp and others, the front office was expecting the team to have a better record at this point in the season. Once the NL Manager of the Year back in 2010, Black will now have to find work elsewhere.

Bench Coach Dave Roberts has been assigned to daily managerial duties in the meantime, according to the report.  The Padres begin a four-game set against the Oakland A’s Monday night.
