NBA Waiver Wire (Week 15): H2H Offensive Category Streamers

By Keith Allison from Owings Mills, USA (Ty Lawson) [CC-BY-SA-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

JT picks fantasy basketball waiver wire streamers and adds for points, assists, and three pointers in Week 15 of the NBA season. These players can be sleepers.

It's never too early to start streaming. Whether you have an opening due to an injury, you auction-drafted a crew of stars and scrubs, or you just didn't bother putting any effort into your last couple draft picks, you probably have a player or two on your team who isn't must-own. You're better off using that roster spot to stream players to eke out wins in close categories in your weekly head-to-head matchups.

This year, RotoBaller will be making weekly recommendations for extreme short term category specialists every week in all six counting stat categories (points, assists, threes, rebounds, steals, and blocks).

Below are my Week 15 offensive category streamers for fantasy basketball - points, threes, and assists are below. All position eligibility and ownership percentages are based on Yahoo! fantasy leagues.

Three Points Made Streamer

Arron Afflalo, SG/SF, SAC, Opponents: Friday vs. PHX, Saturday vs. GSW (8% Owned);

It pains me to say, but it looks like Arron Afflalo should have deep-league value moving forward with Rudy Gay (Achilles) expected to miss the season. Before you throw things, hear me out. Afflalo has played 32.9 minutes since Gay was forced out with an injury and has averaged 10.0 points, 0.6 steals and 2.3 treys. Those are hard numbers to pass up in deep formats, so it might warrant a hold past this week. For standard leagues, it’s good enough to stream at least until the end of the week. You won’t get high volume from Afflalo, but if you’re in need of triples, he’s got a back-to-back starting on Friday. Garrett Temple’s status is still up, which should add more value.

In terms of other options, Terrence Ross has a triple in 10 straight games and averaging 10.7 points, 0.8 steals and 2.3 treys. DeMar DeRozan (ankle) has been ruled out of Wednesday’s game, so it might go past that. C.J. Miles has been hot and cold, but if you’re looking to for a high-risk, high-reward option, this is it. Lastly, we have Nik Stauskas, who’s been playing better lately and getting the minutes, averaging 11.8 points and 2.6 triples over his last five games.

Other Options: Terrence Ross, SG/SF, TOR (20% Owned); C.J. Miles, SG/SF, IND (20% Owned); Nik Stauskas, SG/SF, PHI (3% Owned)

Points Streamer

Alec Burks, PG/SG, UTA, Opponents: Thursday vs. LAL, Saturday vs. MEM (4% Owned)

Guys, Alec Burks is only 4 percent owned in Yahoo. That means guys like Bobby Portis and Mirza Teletovic are somehow owned in more leagues than him. The latter hasn’t seen consistent rotational minutes in January. Burks has put up 13.0 points, 0.6 steals and 0.8 triples on 60.5 percent from the field over his last five games. He continues to trend upwards and looks like an easy stash candidate. The numbers include Rodney Hood in the lineup, so they have a good chance at hovering around these averages.

P.J. Tucker has been serviceable and his ability to provide value in multiple categories should be an added bonus if considering him as a stream option. Jeff Green is in one of his better shooting streaks, so he can be owned until he loses it. Donatas Motiejunas seems to have found a consistent 20 minute role with the Pelicans and has produced on the offensive end. Lastly, Shabazz Muhammad always has the ability to drop 20-plus and is doing his thing, so he can be owned if you need to up those point totals for the end of the week.

Other Options:  P.J. Tucker, SG/SF, PHX (22% Owned); Jeff Green, SG/SF, ORL (10% Owned); Donatas Motiejunas, SF/PF/C, NOP (6% Owned); Shabazz Muhammad, SG/SF, MIN (4% Owned)

Assists Streamer

Ty Lawson, PG, SAC, Opponents: Friday vs. PHX, Saturday vs. GSW (18% Owned)

Ty Lawson just won’t bounce out of the fantasy picture in Sacramento. He’s been as inconsistent as they get, but we’re talking waiver wire streamers for the weekend here, folks. Use him for the assists, then cut him. He’s been a better distributor than Darren Collison over the past two weeks, but it’s still not enough to warrant a hold in standard formats unless you desperately need the assists.

Raymond Felton has been mostly disappointing since Chris Paul went down, but he’s still providing low-end assists off the wire. Yogi Ferrell has popped up on fantasy radar’s after signing a 10-day with the Mavs. His value will be directly tied to Deron Williams’ status for the late week. He should be a good streaming option if Williams can’t suit up. Jameer Nelson has stepped up in Emmanuel Mudiay’s (back) absence, so he’ll be worth owning until we know a Mudiay is ready to resume his regular workload.

Other Options: Raymond Felton, PG/SG, LAC (20% Owned); Yogi Ferrell, PG, DAL (6% Owned); Jameer Nelson, PG, DEN (18% Owned);

By popular demand, RotoBaller has aggregated all of our fantasy basketball NBA waiver wire pickups into a running list of NBA waiver options, so bookmark the page and check back often for updates.
