Anthony Rendon will be shut down once again as an MRI revealed a left oblique strain.
The all-star caliber third baseman for the Washington Nationals was on his way back until he suffered a new injury to go with his laboring knee injury that has not allowed him to play a game this season, according to Comcast SportsNet.
Rendon was playing at Double-A Harrisburg until missing three straight games. Washington has decided to shut down one of its top players indefinitely.
“We’re gonna have to slow his progress down a little bit,” Nationals Manager Matt Williams told the Washington Post, referring to the steps Rendon had been making from a sprained medialcollateral ligament in his left knee. “He’s felt it for the last couple days, so we’re going to have to sit him a little bit longer and make sure it’s okay before he resumes activity. It’s just not getting loose for him. So there’s a little strain in there and we’ve gotta take care of it and knock that out before he gets back at it.”
The Nats are 13-14 thus far without the 24-year-old in the lineup this season. Yunel Escobar will see a lot of the action in his place.
