New England Patriots running back (RB) James White is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free-agent addition for Week 2 of the 2020 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team PPR Leagues
OWNED IN: 34% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Another game, another steady performance by the most reliable of rushers doing it in the NFL. James White only played 28 snaps (37% of all offensive plays) for the Pats this weekend, but those reps were enough to watch him putting up numbers. White, being part of a New England backfield, is never going to enamor us because we know how this unit tends to operate, but everything looked as good as we expected in W1 and that should stay the same going forward.
White is just a pass-catching running back with a very defined role and duties on the field. That's not bad, only it's better for those of you part of PPR-format leagues. White got targeted in 7 of 28 of the snaps he played, and that number of targets also accounted for a nice 18% target share only matched by WR Nelson Agholor and topped by WR Jakobi Meyers (9 targets). Even then, White finished the day with a 7-6-49 line while rushing the rock a limited 4 times for 12 yards on the ground (for comparison's sake, RB1 Damien Harris logged 23 carries).
There was some buzz regarding Rhamondre Stevenson's potential large role in the Patriots offense (don't worry, it'll come) but it didn't come to happen in Week 1 (he rushed the ball and got targeted once for a combined 11 yards from scrimmage, fumbling one ball). White is going nowhere, he's one of the less volatile players in fantasy football, and although his ceiling is not quite high he's always going to put up RB2 finishes with upside for an RB1 finish if he can find the end zone. Must-have FLEX in the slightest of deeper leagues, starting at 10/12 teams.
