Week 6 Tight End Rankings Outlooks
Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll called star tight end Brock Bowers (knee) "week-to-week" on Monday after the second-year player missed his first game of the year in the Week 5 blowout loss to the Indianapolis Colts, according to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN. Bowers injured the PCL in his knee in the season opener and played through it through Week 4, but they finally shut him down last week. The 22-year-old could now be in danger of missing a second straight game in Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans, depending on how his knee responds to treatment this week.
Fellow TE Michael Mayer (concussion) missed a second straight game on Sunday as well, which led to the Raiders bringing up Albert Okwuegbunam from their practice squad. Fantasy managers must prepare for another potential absence from Bowers in Week 6. We should know more about his status once the team resumes practicing on Wednesday.
AJ Barner, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner recorded two touchdown catches in Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, bringing his season-long total to four touchdown grabs in just five games. The 23-year-old has hauled in 14 catches for 134 yards this season on 16 targets. Barner's overall target volume (3.2 per game) is subpar, but there's little question that he's one of Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold's favorite end zone targets. Additionally, Barner has now played at least 80% of the offensive snaps in four out of Seattle's five games.
It will be tough for Barner to be a consistent fantasy producer unless he starts commanding a high volume of targets more consistently. Still, he could be a decent low-end streaming option at tight end in deep leagues and is a waiver-wire name to monitor heading into a Week 6 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Darren Waller, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller hauled in all five of his targets for 78 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Waller was in line for a big afternoon, after all five of his receptions came in the first half, and his touchdown came from four yards out to put the Dolphins up 17-0 at the time. What is most encouraging is that he also hauled in a 34-yard and 21-yard reception, showing that he is more than just a red zone threat for his quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa.
This marks his second straight game with a touchdown and demonstrates a reliable floor when healthy. With presumed increased volume, Waller belongs in the TE1 conversations and should be rostered based on his red-zone upside. In addition, he was third on the team in targets, behind Jaylen Waddle and De'Von Achane.
Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints' Swiss-Army Knife and "do it all man" Taysom Hill suited up on Sunday for the first time in 2025 after suffering a torn ACL in Week 13 of 2024. He served as the backup quarterback behind starter Spencer Rattler, while also fulfilling his regular role as a gadget player. He stepped in and completed his only pass for 19 yards, and had six carries for negative one yard, good for 0.66 fantasy points. Hill has always been a bit of a boom-or-bust option in the fantasy community.
Still, if he were to step in for any serious time at quarterback, or continue to see six to 10 carries a game, he could easily provide TE1 fantasy production; however, there will be weeks like this, where it's close to a goose egg. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues can roster him and see how things play out over the next few weeks.
Mason Taylor, New York Jets
New York Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor has seen his role in the team's offense grow with each week of the NFL season so far. In Week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys, Taylor set season highs in targets (12), catches (nine), and receiving yards (67). The 21-year-old now has 20 catches for 175 yards on 28 targets through five games, and he appears to be the clear number two option in the Jets' passing game behind star wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Taylor should be rostered in all PPR leagues with 12 or more teams, although he does get a tough matchup in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos.
Theo Johnson, New York Giants
New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson is now firmly in the mix as a waiver-wire pickup heading into Week 6 after catching six of his seven targets for 33 yards and two more touchdowns in Sunday's 26-14 loss on the road to the New Orleans Saints. Meanwhile, fellow TE Daniel Bellinger led the team with 52 receiving yards on four receptions. Both the 24-year-old's six catches and seven targets were season highs, and it's looking like he's going to need to be taken seriously as a high-end QB2 now that receiver Malik Nabers (knee) is lost for the season.
Johnson's upside certainly takes a hit with Bellinger involved, but fantasy managers can't just ignore Johnson's three touchdowns in rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart's first two NFL starts. He'll be in play as a touchdown-dependent TE2 on a short week next Thursday night against the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6.
