Fantasy Football Injury Reports For Week 7 (Friday Updates): Justin Fields, Deshaun Watson, Jahmyr Gibbs, DK Metcalf, more

Jahmyr Gibbs - fantasy football rankings news NFL DFS lineup picks

Fantasy football injury updates and injury reports for RB, WR, TE, QB for Week 7 (2023), as of 10/20, including Justin Fields, Deshaun Watson, Jahmyr Gibbs, DK Metcalf, more

The season is flying by, and the Week 7 NFL slate is near. As always, there are plenty of key injuries to monitor ahead of Sunday's kickoff. Our injury updates and reports for Week 7 as of Friday, October 20, 2023, will give you the latest updates on key guys.

As always, some players have more "real" risk of missing Week 7 than others, but things change quickly, so it's important to stay up to date. Justin Fields, Deshaun Watson, Jahmyr Gibbs, DK Metcalf, and more are in danger of missing Week 7. Fantasy managers should be ready to pivot should things go south.

To keep close tabs on all of the news across the NFL, make sure to favorite or bookmark the fantasy football player news page, or download the free RotoBaller fantasy football mobile app with push notification alerts on all the latest news. Let's look at the updates for some top fantasy assets at all positions and see whether they may play in Week 7.

Justin Fields Injury Update

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields (thumb) will not play in Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday after dislocating his right thumb in the Week 6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Fields was listed as doubtful to play on Monday and hasn't practiced yet, so fantasy managers can officially move him to their benches for the week and look for a replacement if you haven't already done so. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent is expected to get his first NFL start this Sunday after replacing Fields in the game last week.

Chicago could be without rookie running back Roschon Johnson (concussion) for the second game, too, so the Bears offense is severely undermanned for this one. Bagent will be nothing more than a desperation QB2 play in superflex leagues.

Deshaun Watson Injury Update

The Cleveland Browns listed quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder) as questionable to play in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts. Watson didn't practice on Wednesday but was limited on Thursday and had good zip on his passes on Friday while taking all the first-team repetitions. He has not played since Week 3 -- the Browns also had a bye in Week 5 -- but Watson appears to be trending in the right direction to play this weekend.

Dealing with a right rotator-cuff strain, Watson won't necessarily be a must-start QB1 if he's active this weekend, especially after having not played in a game in three weeks. However, his return would give more fantasy upside to all of Cleveland's offensive skill players against the Colts. If he misses a third straight game, P.J. Walker would make his second straight start under center.

Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery Injury Update

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters on Friday that rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring), who has missed the last two games, will play in Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens. "Certainly I think he's going to need to take the load of (the work)….I'd like to say we're going to be careful with him, but the reality is we need him," Campbell said. It's unclear if Gibbs will be removed from the final Week 7 injury report entirely or if he'll receive a questionable tag.

Either way, the first-rounder will play and should have an elevated role from what he saw the last time he was active in Week 4 now that David Montgomery (ribs) is out this weekend. With the added touches, Gibbs will have RB2 upside, albeit in a tough matchup on the road.

DK Metcalf Injury Update

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf (ribs, hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

He did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday. If active versus Arizona, Metcalf would rank as a low-end fantasy WR2.

Diontae Johnson Injury Update

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson (hamstring) has been removed from the injury report ahead of Week 7 versus the Los Angeles Rams. He practiced in full all week long and doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game. While the Steelers will need to activate Johnson from injured reserve before he's eligible to play, that move should come on Saturday.

Johnson will operate alongside George Pickens in the Steelers' offense, and both players have the potential to see extra volume after tight end Pat Freiermuth (hamstring) was ruled out. Fantasy managers can view Johnson as a low-end WR3/FLEX option at the moment.

Aaron Jones Injury Update

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones (hamstring) has officially received the questionable tag for their Week 7 game against the Denver Broncos. He's only been able to play in two games so far this year, so his return would be a very nice addition to the roster again.

If Jones ends up staying on the sidelines, AJ Dillon will take over as the number-one back again while Emanuel Wilson will serve as the backup. In Jones' two games, he averaged 4.2 yards per carry and scored both on the ground and through the air in the team's Week 1 win over the Bears. Fantasy managers will want to stay tuned up until kickoff to see if he can give it a go.

Dallas Goedert, DeVonta Smith Injury Update

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (groin) and tight end Dallas Goedert (hamstring) have been removed from the injury report and will play in Week 7 versus the Miami Dolphins. Both players were cleared to suit up despite practicing in a limited capacity on Friday. Smith has been relatively quiet over the last two weeks, logging just six catches for 50 yards. Over the four weeks prior, though, he racked up 22 catches, 284 yards, and a pair of touchdowns.

Despite his underwhelming play as of late, Smith will rank as a fantasy WR2 in what should be an offense-heavy matchup this Sunday. Meanwhile, Goedert has delivered increased production recently, totaling 13 catches, 159 yards, and one touchdown over the last two weeks. It can be difficult to emerge as a reliable fantasy option in such a crowded offense, but Goedert is trending up and ranks as a mid-range fantasy TE1 in Week 7.

Saquon Barkley Injury Update

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) will not carry an injury designation into the Week 7 game against the Washington Commanders this Sunday for the first time since suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 2. Barkley returned in last week's loss to the Buffalo Bills and 78 percent of the offensive snaps, carrying the ball a season-high 24 times for 93 yards while adding four catches on five targets for five yards.

It might be tough sledding to find holes behind this banged-up offensive line, but Barkley should get all the volume he can handle yet again, especially with quarterback Daniel Jones (neck) on the wrong side of questionable with his neck injury. Barkley should be considered a low-end RB1 for Week 7.
