Fantasy Baseball Injury Reports - Updates for Zac Gallen, Triston Casas, Nolan Jones, Yandy Diaz, Masataka Yoshida, Craig Kimbrel, more

zac gallen fantasy baseball rankings draft sleepers MLB injury news

Fantasy baseball injury updates and injury reports for MLB hitters and pitchers as of 4/29/2024, including Zac Gallen, Triston Casas, Nolan Jones, Yandy Diaz, Masataka Yoshida, Craig Kimbrel, and more.

A new week of fantasy baseball is set to begin, and always, there are plenty of banged-up players to monitor. That said, let's take a look at the top injured players including Zac Gallen, Triston Casas, Nolan Jones, Yandy Diaz, Masataka Yoshida, Craig Kimbrel, and more.

This is the next edition of this year's fantasy baseball injury updates for hitters and pitchers as of April 29, 2024. Some players on this list impact fantasy baseball more than others, but with leagues of all shapes and sizes, all players should be monitored ahead of the start of the week.

To keep close tabs on all of the news across the MLB, make sure to favorite or bookmark the fantasy baseball player news page, and download the free RotoBaller fantasy baseball mobile app with push notification alerts on all the latest news. Let's look at the injury updates for the top fantasy baseball players.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Zac Gallen Injury Update

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen (hamstring) left the series opener against the Seattle Mariners early on Friday with tightness in his right hamstring, but he is optimistic that he'll be able to make his next start. "I feel pretty encouraged," Gallen said. "So my plan is to make my next start." The 28-year-old apparently made some pretty good progress with his hamstring in just one day. It's not official just yet, but he's currently scheduled to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in Arizona on Wednesday.

Gallen is a fantasy ace, but managers will want to be hesitant in deploying him next week if he indeed gets the nod to face the first-place Dodgers, who have one of the most feared lineups in baseball. Through his first six starts of 2024, Gallen is 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 35 strikeouts and nine walks in 32 innings. (MLB.com)

Triston Casas Injury Update

The Boston Red Sox, who earlier today acquired veteran infielder Garrett Cooper from the Chicago Cubs, have moved slugging first baseman Triston Casas (ribs) to the 60-day IL. This was done to make room on the 40-man roster for Cooper. Casas was diagnosed with a painful cartilage tear in his left ribcage Friday.

The designation to the 60-day IL means Casas will miss at least two months of the season. He reported that he was having difficulty breathing due to the injury. Casas had been off to a good start at the plate, hitting .244 with six home runs and 10 RBI. Cooper figures to take over as the everyday first baseman in Boston while relegating Bobby Dalbec to the bench.

Nolan Jones Injury Update

Colorado Rockies outfielder Nolan Jones (back) was removed from Sunday's game early with back stiffness. Jones missed two games earlier this week with the same injury and was only able to play in one game before the injury popped up again. It is worrying that the back issues appear to be lingering, with manager Bud Black saying that the team will determine whether an IL stint is necessary before the team's next game on Tuesday.

Perhaps this offers a reason for Jones' brutal start to the season, but fantasy managers won't be any happier with that explanation.

Yandy Diaz Injury Update

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz (finger) was back at first base and is hitting in his customary leadoff spot for the Rays on Sunday versus the Chicago White Sox and right-hander Erick Fedde.

Diaz left Friday's contest early after being hit on the left pinkie finger with a pitch, and he sat out on Saturday as a precaution. But now that he's back on the field, fantasy managers will want to get the 32-year-old veteran back into their starting lineups in all formats. (MLB.com)

Masataka Yoshida Injury Update

Boston Red Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida (hand) was removed from Sunday's game in the sixth inning after jamming his hand in his first at-bat of the game. Manager Alex Cora said after the game that the team wasn't sure what the extent of the injury was and X-rays hadn't been taken yet.

Yoshida is off to a pretty good start to the year with a .274/.357/.403 slash line, although his two homers and zero steals don't make him much of a roto league option in fantasy. An update on his status should come sometime on Monday.

Craig Kimbrel Injury Update

Baltimore Orioles closer Craig Kimbrel blew his second consecutive save on Sunday before leaving the game alongside the team's training staff. Kimbrel issued a four-pitch walk to Darrell Hernaiz and then served up a two-run home run to Kyle McCann before leaving.

He also blew the save in Friday's game after allowing two hits and three walks. It is unclear at this point what Kimbrel's injury is, but something was off with the veteran reliever. Expect more news to come out shortly from the Orioles.

Paul Sewald Injury Update

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Paul Sewald (oblique) will have his rehab slowed a bit due to soreness. He was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday but was scrapped after feeling soreness during a rehab stint with Triple-A Reno. The 33-year-old has been sidelined all season with a strained left oblique.

He was on track to return from the injured list soon, but Sewald needs more time to recover from his oblique strain. Kevin Ginkel will continue to be Arizona's primary closer while Sewald is sidelined. Ginkel has been solid handling ninth-inning duties for the D-Backs, converting 4-of-6 saves while posting a 3.48 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and an 11:2 K: BB across 10 1/3 innings.

Brayan Bello Injury Update

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Brayan Bello (lat) has reportedly been making great progress in his recovery, according to manager Alex Cora. The right-hander recently landed on the 15-day injured list but sounds like Bello should be back sooner rather than later. It's uncertain if the team plans on having Bello go on a rehab assignment. If not, Bello could rejoin the rotation once his injured list stint is over.

Bryan Woo Injury Update

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryan Woo pitched three-and-a-third innings for Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, allowing two hits while striking out six batters and walking none. That marks his second straight strong rehab performance, with two hits, zero earned runs, no walks, and eleven strikeouts in all (six-and-a-third IP). The 24-year-old is expected to make one more start for Tacoma before being evaluated to determine whether or not he's ready to rejoin the Mariners' rotation.

Woo is coming off a solid 2023 MLB debut and became somewhat of a fantasy sleeper in the offseason with some additional hype building in the spring after the righty posted an 11:1 K: BB over three Cactus League starts. Managers who held onto Woo should slot him back into their lineups upon his return, and he's rostered in just 65% of Yahoo leagues, so those in need of pitching help would be wise to pick him up off the waiver wire where available.
