FanDuel PGA DFS Lineup Picks - 2022 Travelers Championship Fantasy Golf Advice

Scottie Scheffler PGA dfs lineup betting picks daily fantasy golf

Joe Nicely breaks down the FanDuel DFS lineup picks for the 2022 Travelers Championship. Daily fantasy golf advice on under-owned golfers and who to avoid for your lineups.

Hello RotoBaller PGA crew! It's great to be back with you guys and I appreciate you joining us here at RotoBaller for your PGA DFS research. This week we'll dig into the FanDuel PGA DFS slate for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.

In this article, we'll discuss some of the standout PGA DFS plays available on FanDuel for the 2022 Travelers Championship. While it's impossible to hit on every player, we'll touch on some different plays across all price ranges, breaking the groups down into "High", "Mid", and "Low" price options that are worth considering.

Like always, the purpose of this piece is to help you put together your optimal daily fantasy golf lineups for FanDuel, whether that be from a GPP perspective or a cash-game mentality. Be sure to also read all of our other top-notch weekly PGA DFS and betting articles to help you win big!

2022 Travelers Championship - PGA DFS Overview

The Course: TPC River Highlands

Par 70 - 6,841 Yards, Greens: Bent/Poa Mix, Designed By: Pete Dye

TPC River Highlands is a course with Pete Dye's fingerprints all over it. Its most famous stretch of holes (#'s 15-17) is played AROUND a huge 4-acre lake, which is very on-brand for the legendary Dye.

While the course can be tricky, we will still see plenty of birdies this week, as TPC River Highlands relinquished the only 58 in PGA Tour history to Jim Furyk a few years ago. That said, I would stop just short of calling this event a pure birdie-fest, as the average winning score over the past five years has been 15.6 under par.

At just over 6,800 yards this is one of the shorter tracks on the schedule, but players won't necessarily be able to overpower this course, as the layout requires less than driver off the tee in multiple spots. I'll be targeting sharp ball strikers with complete skill sets that can pile up birdies this week.

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for FanDuel (PGA DFS)

We have tons of great weekly PGA articles, DFS analysis, tools and DFS advice. Be sure to read our other fantastic articles regarding this week's event including DFS lineup picks for DraftKings/FanDuel, betting advice and DFS prop picks.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Scottie Scheffler ($12,000)

The bottom line is that fading Scottie Scheffler has simply been bad business in 2022. Despite his slate-topping $12k salary on FanDuel, I feel that's again the case this week. The Texan and current World No. 1 simply isn't fading, as he's coming off yet another event that he had a very good chance to win last week at The Country Club. Though Scheffler ultimately settled for a runner-up result in the U.S. Open, the message was clear: he's not going anywhere anytime soon. His mediocre Travelers record (T47-MC) suggests that this finally be the week to fade him, but opening with rounds of 69-65 in last year's edition says otherwise. He grades out second in this week's field in both SG: Approach & Birdies or Better Gained over the last 24 rounds. I look for him to once again be in serious contention this week and with a salary higher than that of Rory & JT, I expect the ownership to be reasonable.

Patrick Cantlay ($11,600)

I feel as though the "Dynamic Duo" of Rory & JT are certainly in play, but Patrick Cantlay is an interesting player to highlight this week. Cantlay's career seems to have reached the point to where his success is measured by his performances in major championships - an area where he's struggled in recent years. However, the Californian is coming off a very respectable T14 result in last week's U.S. Open. He brings that positive momentum to an event where he once shot a round of 60 as an amateur and has run off four straight top-15 finishes since 2018. He's gained an average of 5.9 strokes total per start over his last five and has now gained strokes T2G in three of his last four. While he might not be as flashy as some of the other high-priced options on this slate, this is the type of environment (a "regular" Tour event) in which Cantlay has repeatedly thrived.

Sam Burns ($11,500)

Slammin' Sammy, Bermuda Burns...I don't care what you call him, just make sure and click on his name this week. Sam Burns has a superstar-level skill set that includes prodigious length off the tee and a consistently-excellent putter. The difference maker for the LSU alum is his irons...when they're firing he starts winning golf tournaments. As of now, the approach game is clicking in full force, as he's gained an average of 4.5 strokes on Approach per start over his last five. In addition to the white-hot form, Burns has improved in each of his three Travelers appearances with a career-best T13 in last year's edition.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Davis Riley ($10,600)

The rookie just continues to impress. Riley had recorded four consecutive top-15 finishes prior to a T31 last week in the U.S. Open - a result that I personally believe to be pretty darn spectacular given the circumstances. He should find things more to his liking this week, as TPC River Highlands should allow him to take advantage of a couple of things that he's been doing very well as of late, which is striking the irons beautifully and making lots of birdies. Riley comes in ranked first in this rather stout field in SG: Approach over the last 12 rounds, while also grading out third in Birdies or Better Gained over the last 24 rounds. This kid is uber-talented and this level of play is sustainable for him.

Brian Harman ($10,100)

The cagey veteran comes to mind every time the schedule brings us a short-ish layout and that's again the case for this week's Travelers. The light-hitting lefty has been deadly at TPC River Highlands, where he's tallied a 68.50 career scoring average and has logged top-eight finishes in three of his last four Travelers appearances. Harman busted as a popular salary saver a few weeks ago at Colonial, but the veteran has bounced back to put forth very solid outings at the Memorial and the U.S. Open in two subsequent starts. I like his chances of staying on this week on a course that sets up well for him.

Brendan Steele ($9,500)

Brendan Steele heads to Connecticut with an elite combination of course history and recent form. Steele has put together an impressive Travelers resume over 11 career appearances, tallying a 68.08 scoring average. The veteran has made the cut in eight of those 11 starts at TPC River Highlands and - get this - has never finished outside the top-25 when he's made the cut in the Travelers. In addition to that juicy factoid, he comes into this year's edition on the heels of his two best ball-striking performances of the year, which resulted in strong finishes at both the PGA Championship (T9) and the Memorial (T10).

Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

K.H. Lee ($9,300)

We all know the "TPC Lee" jokes, but those that rostered the Korean when he won the AT&T Byron Nelson for the second year in a row last month were laughing all the way to the bank. Lee heads to another TPC venue this week and - shocker - he's played pretty well at Rivier Highlands, making the cut in two of his three career Travelers appearances with a T13 coming in 2019. He's been solid if unspectacular since his victory at the Nelson and has now gained strokes T2G in each of his last five starts. This profiles as more of a GPP play, since Lee does tend to run hot and cold, but it's a low-cost bet that could pay off in a big way thanks to his explosive upside.

Mackenzie Hughes ($9,100)

As we move down into "GPP Only" territory, Mackenzie Hughes stands out as a player that's flashed a bit of form, has some nice history at TPC River Highlands, and possesses sneaky upside. Hughes has been a yo-yo in recent months, following a strong Swing Season with some ugly play to open the calendar year. However, the Canadian has settled in a bit as of late and comes in on the heels of three consecutive made cuts, including a top-25 finish in last week's U.S. Open. The recent flash of form alone is enough to pique my interest, but Hughes also has a rock-solid Travelers record, as he owns a 68.70 career scoring average in this event and has never missed a cut in five career Travelers appearances.

Beau Hossler ($8,800)

A T53 result at Brookline last week doesn't really do justice to how well Hossler played over the first two days of the U.S. Open (four-under thru first two rounds), but failing to put four rounds together is, unfortunately, a common theme for the former University of Texas prodigy. Hossler has been sneakily in contention on multiple occasions this year only to be undone by a bad round that usually comes on Sunday. Top-five results at Pebble Beach and Valero indicate there's upside here and coming in with a made-cut streak of five straight tells us he's finding a bit of consistency. Hossler has a runner-up finish, as well as a T10 on his Travelers resume over five career appearances, and should be considered a high-upside GPP option on this slate.
